Have you been feeling sad, depressed, listless? And you feel like doing – nothing? And then you do just that – nothing. And your mood gets worse. Your self-esteem spirals down, and so on.

Believe it or not, when you feel sad and unmotivated, the last thing you need to do is – nothing.

One of the greatest obstacles to happiness is feeling like we are wasting our lives away. People have a need to feel useful, to feel they matter, to feel that they have done something worthwhile with their time.

If you are feeling very low, start with making simple goals like:

  1. I will go for a 5 minutes walk every day for the next 7 days.
  2. I will journal 5-10 minutes every day about how I feel for the next 7 days.
  3. I am going to talk to a friend every day for the next 7 days.
  4. I’m going to help someone feel better every day for the next 7 days.

11 Easy Ways To Feel Happy In The Next Few Minutes

Have you been feeling down lately? Here are 11 simple ways to immediately improve your mood.

  1. Close your eyes, and take deep breaths slowly… expanding your belly first and then your chest. Exhale slowly. Each time you inhale, imagine the cool healing breath filling your head and cooling & relaxing it. Each time you breathe out, make your body limp, loose, and relaxed. Do this for a few minutes in a focused way.
  2. Put some upbeat music on, and let your imagination soar… imagining doing things you would like to do, imagine doing things that will make you smile. It does not matter whether you can actually do those things or not. As long as it will make you happy, IMAGINE doing it. Our brains treat powerful imaginations, and actual experiences very similarly. Your emotional response will be the same. You will improve your mood!

Most of us do this.

We go to bed and then worry about everything we can remember. Or we have mental conversations with people where we are arguing with them and “putting them in place”. Or we imagine the worst possible things.

And the next day we wake up to live the same life we have been living, one that gives us enough things to worry about.

Why is life not changing for the better?

One of the biggest reasons is what I mentioned above.

The time just before we go to sleep is powerful.

That is the time when our subconscious mind is most accessible to programming. It is our subconscious mind that creates our lives. Our conscious mind fills the subconscious with information, and the subconscious mind creates accordingly.

The subconscious does not judge. It will not stop to wonder if this will cause you happiness or sadness. It follows the instructions that the conscious mind gives it.

You don’t gain anything from going back to what broke you. You don’t gain anything by sacrificing your sanity and self-care for a momentary feeling of comfort. The sadness will pass. The hurt will fade. New things and people will take their place, and someday soon, your heart will feel full again. Someday, you’ll laugh at how convinced you were that this was the end. That there was no others way out or through.
