Have you been feeling sad, depressed, listless? And you feel like doing – nothing? And then you do just that – nothing. And your mood gets worse. Your self-esteem spirals down, and so on.

Believe it or not, when you feel sad and unmotivated, the last thing you need to do is – nothing.

One of the greatest obstacles to happiness is feeling like we are wasting our lives away. People have a need to feel useful, to feel they matter, to feel that they have done something worthwhile with their time.

If you are feeling very low, start with making simple goals like:

  1. I will go for a 5 minutes walk every day for the next 7 days.
  2. I will journal 5-10 minutes every day about how I feel for the next 7 days.
  3. I am going to talk to a friend every day for the next 7 days.
  4. I’m going to help someone feel better every day for the next 7 days.
